I needed a place to eat lunch at as soon as I arrived in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania so I checked out some suggestions on the Internet and came across Food 101, Gettysburg. Generally, when deciding on where to eat, I’ll have a look at the restaurant’s menu and reviews, but since I was starving, I skipped the due diligence and went with my gut. Besides high praises from Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google+ cannot be just a coincidence, right?
Rant or Rave: Food 101, Gettysburg
Rave: Shrimp and Crab Salad
It wasn’t. Eating at Food 101, Gettysburg was one of those rare times I wished I were dining with someone because it was hard NOT to want to order everything from the menu. I figured looking at what others were eating would help me make a decision. No such luck there so I settled for something light and healthy despite the temptation of aromatic sandwiches and those garlic truffle fries.
What I ordered was one of their daily specials. It was a shrimp and crab salad, served on a bed of spring mix, with avocado slices, mango salsa, and pumpkin seeds. The shrimp and crab both appeared pan-seared and were very lightly seasoned. The dressing included was a light vinaigrette.
I enjoyed my salad. It was exactly what I needed to eat though I would suggest mixing in a bit of spinach and serving it with some form of carbohydrate (pita slices, flat breads, etc.) The greens tasted fresh and there was ample serving of both seafood topping. The price was reasonable too ($11.95) especially since it had both shrimp and crab.
Should I find myself back in Gettysburg, I wouldn’t think twice about eating here again, but next time, I’d definitely be ordering fries.
