Last night was the pre-launch party for one of the most anticipated summer restaurant openings here in Washington, D.C. The restaurant of course is Claudia’s Steakhouse, the Latin-infused steakhouse who caught the eyes of the public early on with its tantalizing and stimulating billboard posters. As it turns out, from what I saw, the restaurant is living up to its sexy and sleek reputation. Everything from the décor to the food itself was on par. The main dining room is swimming with white leather booths while the private dining area fills with a contemporary mix of white and charcoal gray seats. The hors d’oeuvres I sampled were all very good, but my favorite by far was the pork belly topped with chimichurri. The bite-size serving was bursting with flavors and had a particularly sublime texture. It literally melted inside my mouth.
As for desserts, the standouts were the almond dessert and the piña colada cookie. I got to sample two of the house reds, both Cabernets from California. Both were outstanding wines. Considering last night’s event was just a teaser of what’s to come, you can expect plenty more exciting things from downtown’s newest fine dining establishment.
Claudia’s Steakhouse opens tonight, June 19. The restaurant will be serving lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and dinner starting at 5 p.m. on weekends. It’s located inside the Investment Building at 1501 K Street, NW (entrance on the 15th Street side).
